White House press secretary Sean Spicer says there’s been a dramatic expansion of the federal workforce in recent years – it’s just not true!
President Trump signed an executive order today freezing federal workforce hiring. Trump made the federal hiring freeze part of his broader pledge while on the campaign trail to tackle corruption and waste in Washington, D.C., by “draining the swamp.” White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer says there’s been a “dramatic expansion of the federal workforce in recent years.” This is unequivocally false. The charts below show a significant downward trend in federal hiring in the last several years.
The Washington Post covered a story which showed the federal government employs the fewest people since 1966.
Why does the Trump administration consistently lie about provable facts? White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said today in his first formal briefing to the press “my intention is to never lie to you.” Is Spicer simply misinformed or is this the administration’s new way of doing business? Distorting the facts by offering an “alternate reality” under the guise of not intending to lie seems farcical as advisor Kellyanne Conway has now suggested seems to be the new White House Agenda.
